Barney the Dinosaur - A Sweet Memory

A few days ago my Mom and I visited Brad, Joshua's friend for many, many years.  Brad was older than Joshua by about 14 years, but when he would visit Joshua, they would frequently watch Barney together.  And Brad would be so excited as he would bring Barney videos just for Joshua.  Those were good times, because both young men loved the happiness of Barney and his friends, and being together.

Well, when we walked into Brad's home just a few days ago, I immediately
heard the very familiar tunes from Barney!  I quickly walked over to the TV, and there it was, a wonderful episode from Barney and his friends!  The memories flooded back and I remember my handsome Joshua clapping and cheering and loving this very special and happy show.  

Joshua also loved to watch Barney with his best friend Mark!  In fact, I did give Mark one of Joshua's Barney videos after he died.  Joshua and Mark would also watch Bob Barker and The Price is Right.  And of course they would love these shows -- they were about laughter, fun and joy!!  

We love you Mark and Brad!

Jamie and I had a typical Joshua experience this week.  We were driving down Center Street in Provo.  Joshua was in the front seat holding his Barney video tape, and Jamie was in the middle seat of the van.  Well she rolled down her window for just a moment to get some air, and that’s all it took – out flew the Barney tape!!  Jamie said the expression on the guy’s face next to us was one of shock and confusion.  And then of course the tape was immediately run over by the next car, and completely destroyed.  And then poor Joshua is wondering why we can’t get his tape back!!!  I thought about picking up the pieces, but then realized that if I stopped the car and tried to do that, Joshua would throw something else out the car, and we would be in a vicious cycle.  So Jamie and I have just had to laugh about it.  Jamie said that it was an “irritating Barney tape anyway.”

A video tape to bring a smile of remembrance of Joshua holding tightly to his beloved video tape one moment,

and then throwing it far across the room the next moment!



One of many video tapes carried by Joshua wherever he went.  It was his "security blanket" and we have purchased countless tapes because they would eventually be thrown in the grocery store aisle, over a fence, or across the parking lot.  Joshua did not understand when they would break and would no longer go in the VCR.  He did know his name was written on it, and he did know that favorite movies or shows were right in his precious hand!

as it hurt way less than a wooden bat when it was thrown by Joshua!
